Sophie Calle, M’as-tu vue

Stage design, mise en scène and meticulous layout plan of the artist’s works

From November 2003 to March 2004, Sophie Calle exposed her world and work at an exhibition at the Pompidou Centre.

« M’as-tu vue » gathered Calle’s former works like Les Dormeurs (1979), rarely on show in France, and an important body of new works such as Douleur exquise (1984-2003) and Unfinished (2003) created especially for the occasion. For more than two decades, using installations, narrative, photographs, videos and films, Calle has been constructing situations that are highly autobiographical in which she stages herself and subjects herself to precise rules.

The literary aspect of this work is so dense that it required a quiet and sober setting that would favour the visitor’s concentration. We therefore paid particular attention to the layout and proportion.
